Our visionOpenHub has a clear vision, based around a number of key ideas: Next generation broadbandOpenHub has set itself at the leading edge of broadband service developments. We have a particular focus on using data networks to deliver a wide portfolio of locally-based services for the community: community portals, telecare, security, energy management, education, digital television, and many more. We are committed to the full exploitation of high-performance networks appropriate to the twenty-first century. Open SystemsTraditionally, worthwhile services have demanded the construction of 'vertically integrated' infrastructure. Such vast investment and commitment inhibits the creation and operation of a great many services that would otherwise be of immense value to many, smaller groups of individuals. OpenHub is creating a shared, open ecosystem that permits a wide variety of vendors to deliver their services in an open and competitive environment. In lowering the barriers to market entry, we encourage competition and enable the delivery of niche services that until now have not been commercially sustainable. Smart homes and smart communitiesThe key focus of OpenHub’s work is to design and develop Smart homes and Smart Communities. A Smart Home offers the homebuyer a set of rich entertainment and communication services, along with easy management of the home environment and utilities. For a comparatively small additional cost, the homebuyer gains a range of attractive features that enhance their pride in their new home and help them feel safer and more comfortable within it. A Smart Community is a neighbourhood where the residents are better connected to each other and to the businesses and agencies that serve them. A local TV channel and local information and online services could be provided to all homes, with specialist provision available for those who need it. In this way residents feel more a part of their local neighbourhood and the area as a whole becomes a more desirable place to live
